Three ways to get the table into a spreadsheet

 1. Download .xlsx: an Excel workbook with one sheet per table (“Table 1”, “Table 2”…), a bold header row frozen at the top, and columns sized to their content.
 2. Download .csv: the selected table as comma-separated values, for databases and tools that import CSV.
 3. Copy for Excel: puts the selected table on the clipboard as tab-separated text. Click the top-left cell where it should go in your spreadsheet and paste.

How values are converted

In the MarkdownIn the .xlsx
1250, -12.5, 1,299.50Numbers (you can sum and chart them)
00471, 007Text, so the leading zeros survive
12.3%, $9.00Text, exactly as written
**Total**, [link](https://…)The plain text: Total, link
line one
line twoTwo lines in one wrapped cell
Empty cellsEmpty cells

The number column in the preview is highlighted, so you can check what will be stored as a number before you download. Untick “Store numbers as numbers” to keep every value as text.

When a table isn’t detected

The converter follows the GitHub-Flavored Markdown table rules. The line under the header must be a delimiter row made of hyphens, like |---|---|, with one cell per column. A table ends at the first blank line. To include a literal | in a cell, write \|.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Markdown table to Excel?

Paste the Markdown above and press Download .xlsx. Each table becomes its own worksheet, with the header row in bold and frozen at the top. You can also copy the cells and paste them into an open spreadsheet.

Are numbers stored as numbers?

Yes, when “Store numbers as numbers” is ticked. Plain numbers such as 1250, -12.5 or 1,299.50 become numeric cells you can sum and chart. Values with leading zeros (like ZIP codes or 00471), percentages, currency symbols and numbers longer than 15 digits are kept as text so nothing is changed by accident.

What does “Copy for Excel” do?

It copies the selected table as tab-separated text: a tab between columns and a new line for each row, ready to paste into a spreadsheet. If your spreadsheet puts everything in one column, use Download .xlsx instead.

Which should I choose: .xlsx or .csv?

Use .xlsx for Excel: it keeps several tables as separate sheets, a bold frozen header, column widths and text values exactly as written. Use .csv when another program asks for CSV; it holds one table and no formatting.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Tables are parsed and the files are created in your browser.

Does it handle bold text or links inside cells?

The formatting marks are removed and the text is kept, so **Total** becomes Total. A
inside a cell becomes a line break within the cell.
